Data Release: 22 Pedestrians, 5 Bicyclists Killed in 2019 in City of San Diego

SAN DIEGO (January 15, 2020) – Collision data compiled by Circulate San Diego shows that in 2019, 44 people traveling by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, or vehicle died in the City of San Diego. Overall, 14 fewer fatalities occurred in 2019 than in 2018, however, 2019 still had more fatalities than 2017. The Vision Zero goal of zero traffic fatalities is still a long way off as San Diego approaches the midpoint of its 10 year Vision Zero commitment.

Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run in Sherman Heights

SAN DIEGO (January 21, 2020) – A driver killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run early on Sunday morning. The victim was dragged for about 100 feet by the driver on the 1800 block of Market Street in Sherman Heights. The driver has not been located and police are looking for a silver GMC Envoy SUV.

Press Conference: Hit-and-Run Video Released at One-Year Crash Anniversary  Shows Need for Vision Zero Action

San Diego Planning Commissioner Vicki Granowitz and Circulate San Diego will stand at the site where Granowitz was seriously injured by a reckless driver one year ago to release footage of the hit-and-run. Granowitz lost several front teeth, suffered a concussion, and fractured her knee in two places as a result of the distracted driver crashing into her as she crossed the street. Granowitz will share her experience of being hit by a car outside of Fernside, her restaurant, and Circulate will make a call to action to the City of San Diego to prioritize Vision Zero.
