Video: COVID-19 and the Transportation Sector Panel

On April 2nd, Circulate SD convened panelists with diverse transportation backgrounds to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the transportation sector in San Diego and nationally. Our Policy Director, Maya Rosas, moderated the discussion and panelist included:

  • David Bragdon, Executive Director, TransitCenter
  • Kathleen Ferrier, Policy Director, Councilmember Chris Ward
  • Clint Daniels, Senior Planning Manager, WSP
  • Sharon Cooney, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, MTS

We began the discussion by hearing about how transit agencies are being impacted by necessary social distancing guidelines and the $25 billion relief package recently passed by Congress. San Diego regional transit agencies will receive $314 million to continue operating while revenues have fallen steeply.

The panelists also discussed how the pandemic has changed travel patterns, resulting in more people walking and fewer people driving. Across San Diego, people are using their streets differently than before and many other cities have begun enacting changes to support social distancing requirements.

You can watch our panel, COVID-19 and the Transportation Sector, here.

Thank Congress for Supporting Public Transportation

Join us in thanking Congress for supporting public transit with a $25 billion rescue package!  As a result, San Diego regional transit agencies will receive $314 million for operations and safety equipment. This rescue is vital to the survival of public transit in an era of steep, and necessary, ridership loss in San Diego and nationwide.

Click here to easily send a thank you note and remind Congress to continue to prioritize transit as they consider future rescue packages.

VIDEO: Safe and Simple Walking Tips!

Circulate SD staff are well-versed in school-based education and have hosted presentations about bicycle and pedestrian safety throughout the region. Since we are unable to work with students in the school-setting, we created a Safe and Simple Walking Tips video for students to learn about safe walking behavior from their homes. The video includes easy-to-remember safety tips that can be practiced during this at-home learning period. We recently shared this video with the Oceanside School District through our Walk N Roll program in partnership with the County’s HHSA department and the Office of Traffic Safety. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Please feel free to share this video and practice these skills from safe social distances.

Take the National City Homefront to Waterfront Survey

Looking for a 5-minute activity that will help improve connections from Downtown and Old Town National City to the Waterfront? Take the National City Homefront to Waterfront Survey available in English and Spanish open now through April 24, 2020.

This project takes a comprehensive look at improving connections from Downtown and Old Town National City to the Waterfront to provide better access to jobs, recreation, and transportation. Circulate, KTUA, and National City are continuing our community outreach efforts by utilizing digital platforms and social media to promote this survey and hope you will submit your input!
