Press Conference: Circulate San Diego and Housing Advocates Call on SANDAG to Lead on Housing

Circulate San Diego will host a press conference with housing advocates and business leaders this morning to call on the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) to vote to accept the state’s housing needs determination. A vote to accept the housing determination would demonstrate the region’s leadership in the state on solving the housing crisis.

When: Friday, June 8th, 8:45 AM

Where: Wells Fargo Building Plaza, 401 B Street, San Diego, CA 92101

Who:

  • Maya Rosas, Circulate San Diego
  • Stephen Russell, San Diego Housing Federation
  • Stefanie Benvenuto, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce
  • Borre Winckel, Building Industry Association of San Diego County

What: Every 8 years, the SANDAG Board votes on the state’s determination of the number of new homes needed for the region. SANDAG and every other region usually vote to request a lower number, but today SANDAG has the chance to be a leader by accepting the state’s housing determination for San Diego. The state determined that there is a need to build 171,000 more homes in the next 8-year cycle but about a month ago SANDAG voted to request a determination of 116,000. Today’s vote is a second chance for SANDAG to be at the forefront statewide in making bold decisions to house the region.

Following the press conference, supporters will speak during public comment at the SANDAG Board of Directors meeting at 9:30 AM, located in the Wells Fargo Building on the 7th floor.
