Video: COVID 19 and Transportation Sector Panel Discussion

On April 2nd, Circulate convened panelists with diverse transportation backgrounds to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the transportation sector in San Diego and nationally. Our Policy Director, Maya Rosas, moderated the discussion and panelist included:

  • David Bragdon, Executive Director, TransitCenter
  • Kathleen Ferrier, Policy Director, Councilmember Chris Ward
  • Clint Daniels, Senior Planning Manager, WSP
  • Sharon Cooney, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, MTS

We began the discussion by hearing about how transit agencies are being impacted by necessary social distancing guidelines and the $25 billion relief package recently passed by Congress. San Diego regional transit agencies will receive $314 million to continue operating while revenues have fallen steeply.

The panelists also discussed how the pandemic has changed travel patterns, resulting in more people walking and fewer people driving. Across San Diego, people are using their streets differently than before and many other cities have begun enacting changes to support social distancing requirements.
