Support Vision Zero at the University Avenue Mobility Workshop
The City has a project to improve safety on University Avenue, between Fairmount and Euclid Avenues. Four design concepts have been developed.
They will share these concepts Tuesday, April 26 at a City Heights community-wide workshop. They need your input on problem locations and preferred solutions. Vision Zero is a City of San Diego initiative to eliminate traffic deaths and injuries to zero by 2025 through engineering, education, and enforcement.

Circulate San Diego has Launched the Balboa Station Plan Website with the City of San Diego
The City is conducting a specific plan for the area around the future trolley station at Balboa Avenue. The purpose of this plan and the website is to engage the Pacific Beach and Clairemont Mesa communities and develop a strategy that addresses land use, urban design concepts, and multi-modal improvements to increase bicycle, pedestrian, and transit access to the station. This plan will also establish goals and policies to guide future public and private development to facilitate transit-oriented development (TOD) adjacent to the planned Balboa Avenue Trolley Station, and identify strategies to fund infrastructure improvements.

New Webinar- Partnering for Strong Economies: Regional Councils and Walkable Communities
Join America Walks and the National Association of Regional Councils for a webinar on 2pm May 5th at Eastern, 11am Pacific. The webinar will examine how federal transportation funding is allocated through Regional Councils and how to access it for projects that promote walkable communities including complete streets, safety efforts and place-making. Attendees will explore two unique perspectives as we hear from both a planner from a Regional Council and an advocate who has worked to use the resources available from their Regional Council. -

Policy Letter: Upgrading the Compass Card and Fare Payment Systems for MTS
As a part of our continuing campaign to fix the Compass Card, Circulate San Diego sent a letter last week to the MTS board.
We are heartened to see that MTS has taken immediate action to apply for a grant to fund an upgrade to address PCI compliance for the Compass Card, and to hold a hearing to update the public on the Compass Card at the MTS April board meeting. We are pleased to submit this letter with suggestions regarding how MTS can enhance fare payment systems for our region’s transit systems [PDF].

Policy Letter: Smart Transportation Solutions Beyond Car Storage for UC San Diego
UC San Diego recently solicited input from the campus community regarding transportation and parking policy.
Supporters for smart transportation choices let the administration know they support more access to campus for transit, walking, and bicycling. Circulate San Diego submitted a detailed comment letter, outlining a variety of ways UC San Diego can improve access to the campus, without relying only on more expensive car storage and added traffic.

The PedsCount! 2016 Summit is in Long Beach
The 2016 PedsCount! Summit is headed to Long Beach, June 6 & 7, 2016. The PedsCount! Summit is a terrific opportunity to network with community advocates representing walking, safety, design, public health, planning, education, equity, transit and sustainable transportation. The summit will allow practitioners to explore the planning, transportation infrastructure, institutional and educational issues, as well as successful strategies for creating safe, walkable communities in California.
