About the walk
Enjoy an easy one mile walk through National City’s downtown. Pass by the city’s Planning Department and Civic Center, then take a step back in time as you walk by the Kimball Brick Row homes constructed by Frank Kimball in 1887 at 909 A Avenue. Appreciate the old Santa Fe Railroad VIP executive row houses, influenced by east coast architectural style brought to National City to make the easterners feel at home. Today the John Proctor House across the street, at 940 A Avenue, is the home of the National City Historical Society. As you continue your walk up A Avenue you’ll pass the Nieder Frank’s ice cream parlor at 726 A Avenue, where you can enjoy a cold mid-day ice cream. Another unforgettable site to see is the gateway of the National City Chamber of Commerce and South Western Community College. This gateway offers a pocket park with beautiful tile arches and a monument dedicated to Kile Morgan. This brisk walk is great for a lunch time walk or an all day adventure, to truly indulge into National City’s rich history at the Historical Society.
The distance of this walk is approximately one mile long and consists of primarily flat ground with minor elevation on A Avenue.
