Press Release: Circulate San Diego Congratulates the City of San Diego for Eliminating Parking Minimums in Transit Priority Areas

On November 16th, the City of San Diego adopted a code update eliminating parking minimums for most non-residential uses in Transit Priority Areas (TPAs). The vote was unanimously in favor of the change. The City already eliminated residential parking minimums in TPAs in 2019.

Circulate San Diego has advocated for parking minimum reform since it released its report, “Transit Oriented Development”, in 2017. Circulate San Diego has also been active in supporting the current reform effort.

“Parking minimums run counter to our climate goals,” said Jesse O’Sullivan, policy counsel at Circulate San Diego. “If San Diego is going to meet its ambitious targets for residents walking, biking, and taking transit, it cannot force businesses to cater to cars at the expense of other modes of travel.”
