Press Release: Temporary Signage to Educate Residents about Vision Zero Infrastructure Improvements
SAN DIEGO (April 23, 2021) — Today Circulate San Diego, in partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety and City of San Diego, installed temporary educational signage at improved walking and bicycling infrastructure in the City of San Diego.
The infrastructure featured in this program are infrastructures installed as part of the City’s Vision Zero efforts. Vision Zero is the City’s commitment to end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2025.
Since the City’s adoption of Vision Zero in 2015, the City has installed safe infrastructure throughout the City to strengthen its ability to reach the goal of Vision Zero. This infrastructure includes: Separated Bike Lanes, Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (also commonly called HAWKs), Road Humps, Traffic Circles, and Roundabouts.
The goal of this project is to highlight new Vision Zero infrastructure and educate residents on how to use them safely. “Increasing safety on our roadways through safe street design is a foundation of Vision Zero principles,” said Danielle Berger, Director of Planning at Circulate San Diego. “But we also need to educate our residents on how to use this infrastructure properly and communicate with them throughout the process so that they are aware and involved.”
Locations of Vision Zero Educational Signage by infrastructure type is included below. These temporary signs will be installed for 30-days only from Friday, April 23, 2021 to Monday, May 24, 2021.
