El Cajon Art and Culture Walk
About the walk
The El Cajon Arts and Culture Walk is just under a mile, stretching through the heart of Downtown El Cajon along Historic Highway 80 and the emerging arts district. Stop by the Knox House Museum (home of the El Cajon Historical Society) to learn about the city’s rich history.
In 2009 the Downtown El Cajon Arch was installed to mark and celebrate the successful redevelopment in the area and to welcome visitors and locals alike. Many of the historic buildings have been restored and provide a festive, Spanish backdrop for the new Civic Center Complex. El Cajon businesses created the Alley Cat Art Festival, helping build a vital arts district in Downtown El Cajon known as the Art Alley. The centerpiece to this district is the Olaf Wieghorst Museum. Weighorst was friends with John Wayne and was known as the “Dean of Western Art”. Each frontage has murals and gardens worth seeing. This route consists of main street sidewalks and the civic center pathway.
