Livable La Mesa Action Planning Sessions

Circulate Planning is working with SDSU’s Social Policy Institute on the Livable La Mesa Age-Friendly Initiative. Livable La Mesa is a project through AARP’s Livable Communities Initiative, with support from The San Diego Foundation Age-Friendly Communities (AFC) Program. This project works closely with the community to identify improvements that influence the health and quality of life of older adults.

If you are a La Mesa resident, we encourage you to participate in the next phase of the project: Action Planning Sessions.

Four Action planning Sessions will be hosted in May throughout the City. At each one, the community will work with the project team to start constructing La Mesa’s Age-Friendly Action Plan. Topic areas for the Action Planning Sessions were selected based on feedback received from a community survey and a series of community conversations. Topics include:

  1. Outdoor Spaces & Buildings
  2. Social & Civic Participation
  3. Community Information
  4. Housing
  5. Transportation
  6. Health & Wellness

There is no need to RSVP. Please just show up and join us at these events! You may learn more about the project on the Livable La Mesa webpage.

Budget Season: Join Circulate to Advocate for Increased Vision Zero Funding

The City of San Diego annually adopts a new budget that reflects the priorities of the Mayor and City Council. Last year, the Mayor made the bold commitment to fix the Fatal Fifteen most dangerous intersections in San Diego.

A few Circulate recommendations have been incorporated in the Mayor’s proposed FY 2020 budget. The Mayor’s office has taken important steps to improve street safety but more must be done to reverse the disturbing increase in pedestrian fatalities that occurred in 2018.

Circulate and the Vision Zero Coalition are hosting a Budget Advocacy and Public Speaking 101 event on May 13th at Access Inc in Linda Vista for organizations and community members interested in getting involved in the budget process. Thanks to Kaiser Permanente for their support and to our co-hosts Access Inc and Childhood Obesity Initiative! RSVP here.

City Council’s last evening budget hearing is May 13th at 6 pm and you are invited to join Circulate and other advocates to speak in support of increased funding for safe streets! Whether you support a specific project, Vision Zero, or the Climate Action Plan, this is the time to let our elected leaders know. RSVP to get updates and talking points.

Walk to School Day at Logan!

What a fun Wednesday morning! The Circulate team, including Captain VZ, teamed up with Logan K-8 for Walk to School Day! Captain VZ handed out reflective walking bands to all the students who walked to school because we need to make ourselves as visible as possible to vehicles when we are out walking. Every student who walked to school was also entered into an opportunity drawing to win Captain VZ posters, scooters, and a BIKE!

Thanks you to the stellar students and school staff at Logan K-8 for participating!
