OpEd: Traffic violence kills hundreds of San Diegans a year. Here’s how speed cameras could help.

Families for Safe Streets San Diego Co-Founder Laura Keenan has written persuasively urging Governor Newsom to sign AB 645, a law that would allow the use of speed cameras in a pilot program in six California cities.

Her op-ed, "Traffic violence kills hundreds of San Diegans a year. Here’s how speed cameras could help." was published in the San Diego Union Tribune.  Keenan notes that "A review by the National Transportation Safety Board found that, on roads where speed cameras were used, fatalities dropped by 17 percent to as much as 71 percent. Inexplicably, current California state law does not provide for this basic safety measure."   AB645 would allow this technology to be explored in California.
