The Lagoon trail is the most popular trail in the area and provides a wonderful nature experience, being so close to the water. Egrets, raptors, herons and many other water foul and migrating birds call this home in the winter months. You won’t be disappointed when you hike this trail and experience the opportunity to see some of these magnificent birds in their natural environment. This trail is approximately two miles long and parallels the lagoon’s north shore. This trail is not as topographically challenging as some of the others in Carlsbad’s trail network and offers the opportunity to visit the lagoon’s nature center with an interpretive learning experience for all ages.
