Circulate San Diego to join Chula Vista Mayor, Councilmember to Celebrate National Senior Citizens Day

The City of Chula Vista is celebrating National Senior Citizens Day with Mayor Mary Salas, Councilmember Jill Galvez, and Circulate San Diego with a luncheon and proclamation. The event will honor the city’s inaugural Senior of the Year with a surprise proclamation and will include Circulate San Diego and the Norman Park Senior Center sharing information about senior services, focusing on mobility.

What: 50-60 seniors and partners, including Sharp Healthcare, UC San Diego, and Southwestern College, will attend the National Senior Citizens Day luncheon at Norman Park Senior Center, Chula Vista’s multi-generational community center.

The event includes a brief program with speakers representing Norman Park Senior Center, the Commission for Senior Services, and the presentation of a proclamation honoring Chula Vista’s Senior of the Year. Circulate San Diego will speak about their program to improve mobility for seniors in West Chula Vista. Mobility is vital to maintaining a high quality of life for older adults:
  • Nationally, seniors made 14 percent of their trips by foot in 2017
  • In Chula Vista, people aged 55 and older have experienced an increase in pedestrian and bicyclists injuries since 2012
  • The population of older adults is projected to grow by 194 percent in San Diego County from 2012 to 2035
Visuals include the Norman Park Senior Center, a proclamation ceremony with Mayor Salas and Councilmember Galvez, and seniors utilizing the Center.
