The Circulate San Diego 2016 Momentum Awards honor the people, projects, and places that support forward-thinking multi-modal transportation choices and healthy communities in the San Diego region. Awards Criteria
Citizens Award
An individual who has:
- Dedicated significant time and effort to improving mobility choices, promoting smart growth, and/or facilitating place-making in their community
- Garnered community and political support for improvements/plans
- Taken on effective leadership roles in their community
- Inspired others in the community to join in their efforts
Local Hero Award
An individual who has:
- Served as a volunteer or community advocate dedicated to improving mobility choices, promoting smart growth, and/or facilitating place-making in their community
- Generated community and political support for improvements/plans
- Created a demonstrable positive impact in their community
- Inspired others in the community to join in their efforts
Connectivity Project Award
A project that:
- Involves an urban trail, path, bridge, underpass or other project that improves pedestrian, bicycle or transit connectivity
- Has been implemented or has been approved for implementation by the local jurisdiction
- Serves as an example locally and nationally
- Has garnered community support
Healthy Community Award
A project or program that:
- Facilitates access by walking, bicycling, and transit for persons of all ages, income and ability
- Promotes mixed-use development that links residential, office, commercial, schools, and recreational uses within close proximity of one another
- Creates healthy food/shopping choices in a community
- Serves as an example locally and nationally
- Will positively impact a significant number of people in the community
- Provides community gardens
Complete Streets Project Award
A project, agency, or private developer that:
- Embodies Complete Street principles that enhances accommodation and use of alternative modes in addition to auto use
- Has been implemented or has approved for implementation by a local jurisdiction that has prioritized walking, bicycling, and accommodation for transit
- Will improve the business and residential environment along the street
- Provides a significant improvement in bicycle and pedestrian safety
- Serves as an example locally and nationally
- Will positively impact a significant number of people in the community
Smart Growth Award
A private company, non-profit organization, or government agency with an approved plan or project that:
- Demonstrates the nexus between land use and transportation planning
- Utilizes urban infill and takes advantage of compact building design
- Incorporates a mix of land uses
- Highlights place-making to foster distinctive, attractive communities
- Provides and encourages use of alternative transportation
- Encourages community and stakeholder collaboration in development decisions
- Serves as an example locally and nationally
