Vision Zero Victory: Fatal Fifteen Fixed!

Earlier this week, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer held a press conferenceannouncing the completion of safety improvements to the Fatal Fifteen, the fifteen most dangerous intersections in San Diego. The conference was held at the intersection of 33rd Street & El Cajon Boulevard highlighting the safety upgrades.

This comes after Circulate’s work on the Vision Zero campaign, through which we identified the Fatal Fifteen – intersections in need of the most safety upgrades based on crash and injury data – and the Mayor made a commitment to fix all fifteen.  Less than a year later, all of the fifteen intersections received critical improvements, such as high-visibility crosswalks, audible pedestrian signals, and pedestrian countdown timers.

Mayor Faulconer also announced plans to fix hundreds of additional intersections with new grant funding from the Highway Safety Improvement Program.  Work on these intersections is slated to begin in 2020, with the goal of completing the first 50 intersections by the end of that same year.

Circulate in Sacramento: SB 50

Director of Policy Maya Rosas went to Sacramento on Tuesday to lobby for SB 50 (Wiener), the More HOMES Act, which will help end the housing crisis, protect existing renters from displacement and reduce climate pollution.

California YIMBY invited her to participate in their lobby day in support of the bill, which Circulate endorsed.

Maya met with staff of State Senators and Assembly members to discuss the importance of building more homes near transit, good schools, and jobs.
