Bike/Scooter Share Craze Hits San Diego
In the last two weeks, there has been an explosion of new dockless bikes and scooters to hit San Diego Streets.
The local bike-share market was blown wide open when the City of San Diego's City Attorney's Office released a memo stating that the City's 10-year contract with DecoBike from 2013, did not preclude the City from permitting and allowing competitors to operate in the City. Three companies have since jumped on the opportunity.
Ofo rents out their yellow bikes for a dollar an hour. Then there's LimeBike, which has the most varied line of products, and are as their name suggests brightly colored lime green. They rent standard bikes, pedal assisted electric bikes, and electric powered scooters for a dollar per 30 minutes. And lastly, Bird rents scooters starting at a dollar. California law requires people to wear a bike helmet when operating an electric scooter, so remember to have yours handy if you want to enjoy a ride. Bird offers free helmets to their active users. SR 15 Centerline Grand Opening Tomorrow
The SR 15 Centerline Grand Opening Ceremony and Block Party to celebrate the completion of San Diego County's first freeway-level transit stations is Tomorrow, Saturday, February 24 at Teralta Park in City Heights. There will be free food, music, games, face painting, and giveaways. Also at the event, City Heights CDC, a major advocate for this project will be screening an 11 min documentary they made, that chronicles a history of the project.
