Another win for an affordable San Diego

On Tuesday, February 4, the San Diego City Council adopted a package of Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s policy reforms to promote the development of more affordable homes.

Many of these reforms were first recommended by Circulate San Diego in our January 2017 report titled “Transit Oriented Development.

The City Council action made improvements to San Diego’s affordable bonus program, which provides developers with certain benefits when their projects include homes that are affordable to low-income and moderate-income families.

Circulate San Diego championed the original bonus program in 2016, and we showed in our research that the new program is delivering more affordable and market-rate housing construction.

For more information about these amendments, check out this FOX 5 story, featuring our executive director, Colin Parent, and this piece, by San Diego City Beat.

Letter: MTS Should Provide Bus Transfers

MTS is one of only two of the twenty largest transit agencies in the United States that does not provide free or reduced-price transfers for bus riders. Providing transfers at a free or reduced rate will allow greater access and ease of use for our region’s bus system. Circulate wrote a letter urging the MTS Board of Directors to include free or discounted bus transfers in the Regional Fare Study.
