Last week KPBS reported that our campaign to transform empty transit station parking lots into affordable homes was having an impact.
Push For Affordable Housing On MTS Land Showing Results

MTS officials recently authorized negotiations with a development team seeking to build affordable housing on an underutilized trolley station parking lot. If approved, the proposal would more than triple the number of middle-income homes approved in San Diego since 2010.

Volunteers Needed for People Protected Bike Lane and Community Bike Ride in North Park
Come and join bike advocates in North Park who support protected bike infrastructure along the 30th Street corridor.
Volunteers will meet at Bird Park and then ride up to 30th Street, where they will form a people protected bike lane to demonstrate how protected bike lanes improve street safety.
This event is open to anyone of any age and ability who wants to show support for safer streets.

Circulate Releases Memo on Legal Concerns with Community Planning Group Structure
This week Circulate San Diego released a memorandum detailing legal concerns with the structure of the City of San Diego’s Community Planning Groups, co-authored by Colin Parent and Circulate Policy Committee member and attorney Matthew Stucky. An op-ed was also published in the Voice of San Diego discussing these concerns.
Community Planning Groups provide a vital channel for the City of San Diego to receive public input about transportation and land use policy. As Circulate San Diego demonstrated from our report “Democracy in Planning,” elections and governance of CPGs do not meet the standards we ordinarily expect for fairness and access to governmental decision-making.
This week’s memorandum specifies legal concerns regarding compliance with the San Diego City Charter and the application of the California Political Reform Act to CPGs. Read the full memo here.
