Circulate San Diego needs your help
This is a critical time for transit in San Diego. Now more than ever, Circulate San Diego is providing crucial advocacy to ensure our region can function in a time of crisis.
In March, we joined 250 organizations nationwide to advocate for transit in the federal rescue. Our advocacy worked, and we secured $25 billion in direct operating funding for transit. Hundreds of millions are on the way to support San Diego transit.

Support Builds for Automated Crosswalk Buttons and Slow Streets
Circulate San Diego and a coalition of transportation and community-based organizations sent a letter to Mayor Kevin Faulconer with recommendations for active transportation actions as a response to the COVID-19 crisis.
The coalition included the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, the San Diego Mountain Biking Association, BikeSD, Climate Action Campaign, Hammond Climate Solutions, SanDiego350, City Heights CDC, Rise North Park, Rise Up Town, YIMBY Democrats of San Diego County, and Sunrise Movement San Diego.

We’re optimistic that San Diego will commit to helping create safe space for everyone on our streets, however no specific plans have been announced yet.
Essential Transit: New Circulate White Paper Released
Today, Circulate San Diego released a new white paper, Essential Transit: How essential workers in the San Diego region continue to rely on transit while responding to COVID-19. This followed a virtual press conference with MTS and the Mayor of National City.
Essential Transit uses Census data to analyze how many of the San Diego region’s essential workers rely on public transit. Our analysis finds that 35 percent of usual transit ridership are essential workers. These and other findings will be shared, followed by time for questions from the press.
Nearly 16,000 essential workers in the San Diego region commute to on the region’s buses and, trains every day to their jobs. San Diego must continue to keep transit as a priority for our region’s transportation network.

May is Bike Month!
It's time to *gear* up for Bike Month! Circulate San Diego wants to remind everyone that May is Bike Month! Bike Month across the nation will look a bit different this year, as many activities have been postponed or hosted digitally. However, biking is a great social-distancing activity and we hope you will still hop on the saddle and bike to the beat of your own drum all month long.

CA YIMBY Discussion with Richard Rothstein, Author of The Color of Law
CA YIMBY, a state-wide housing advocacy organization is organizing an online conversation with Richard Rothstein, author of The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America.
Participants will learn about the roots of residential segregation, the impact on our communities today, and the legacy of the Fair Housing Act. They’ll have plenty of time for Q & A, so bring your questions!
This event is the first in CA YIMBY’s Housing & Social Equity Series, to explore and understand the adverse impacts of the housing crisis across California, particularly in communities of color. RSVP with CA YIMBY here.
Circulate Corporate Member Crown Castle Donates $25,000 to Computers 2 Kids San Diego
Circulate San Diego is happy to welcome Crown Castle as the most recent participant in our Corporate Membership program.
With California schools closed for the remainder of the school year, students are being taught online by their teachers. Unfortunately, there are many students who do not have access to devices that would enable them to participate in distance learning. Recognizing the need, as part of its “Connected by Good” national program, Crown Castle donated $25,000 to a local San Diego non-profit, Computers 2 Kids San Diego.
This organization is working to close the digital divide by providing refurbished desktops and laptops to families in need. With students now learning from online home, C2K is or was receiving hundreds of applications a week for computers. Crown Castle’s donation will enable C2K to refurbish an additional 125 laptops that will go to students and their families in San Diego.
