Farewell: Jana Schwartz

It is with bitter sweet emotion, we wish our Senior Planner, Jana Schwartz, a happy farewell! Read on as she shares about the great work she has done and her experience with us. We wish her the best of luck with all her future endeavors!

"The past three years have been filled with new experiences, and I have appreciated the opportunity to be a part of Circulate’s story. The best part of it all has been the people I have worked with along the way. The San Diego planning world is small, and I have been fortunate to work with a diversity of people and communities on a wide variety of projects. From the development of Age-Friendly Action Plans to installing a temporary sidewalk enhancement project, I have been enriched by it all.
While this chapter is closing, I’m not going far, and I will continue creating safe, equitable spaces for all. Thank you for the adventure!"

Promotion Spotlight: Angelica Rocha

Congratulations to Angelica Rocha who has been promoted to Senior Planner. Since joining Circulate in 2019, Angelica has established herself as our graphics and GIS guru and expert on women’s mobility issues presenting at both local and national webinars in 2020. Angelica will now lead the organization's active transportation outreach and planning, mobility assessments, community enhancement programs, Age-Friendly Communities effort, and mentor junior staff.

Caltrans Active Transportation Plan

Spaces as Places Survey

The pandemic helped cities to reimagine our streets.

In the City of San Diego, temporary outdoor spaces popped up throughout the City, allowing for businesses to continue to serve customers. Circulate successfully advocated for these temporary uses last year.

The City of San Diego is preparing a “Spaces as Places” program to make outside dining and other creative uses a permanent part of the City's toolbox for transforming streets. Please submit comments to the City for how to implement their Spaces for Places program at the links below.

Discover Leucadia Walking Loops

Have you visited our Discover Leucadia walking loops yet? Discover Leucadia is a quick-build, COVID- safe, community-based project. The designated walking loops feature historical signage for enhanced pedestrian experience and strengthened connection between existing community amenities.

Discover Leucadia was launched in partnership with Leucadia 101, County of San Diego Health and Human Services, and the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Policy Letter: Request for Funding for Final Adopted Budget

Circulate San Diego and BikeSD submitted a letter urging the City of San Diego to include funding for bus lanes, the Downtown Mobility Plan, Vision Zero outreach, and a mode shift incentive program in the FY 2022 Final Adopted Budget. The letter also urged the City to research and consider an unarmed civilian transportation enforcement division responsible for nonviolent traffic and transportation-related infractions. In addition, the letter requested that all "Sexy Streets" projects include dedicated pedestrian and bicycle right-of-way.

While the Revised Proposed Budget makes many good investments, the City can and should make it better. By implementing the letter's recommendations in the Final Adopted Budget, the City will make even more progress towards its Vision Zero and Climate Action Plan goals.
