Crossing the street is an everyday activity for most San Diegans, but too often it's also one of the most dangerous things they'll do all day.

More than half of crashes with people walking happen at intersections, and among these, repeat crashes occur at the same intersection time and time again. More than 200 people have been killed or seriously injured at fifteen intersections over the last 15 years. These are the Fatal Fifteen.

When Mayor Faulconer announced his support for Vision Zero in 2015, he stated, "There is nothing more important than public safety which is why we're working toward the goal of zero traffic deaths in the City of San Diego."

One year into its commitment, the City has taken some steps to achieving the goal of Vision Zero, but noticeably missing in the first year were infrastructure improvements at some of the most dangerous intersections. Meanwhile, 2016 was the third year in a row to experience an increase in deaths and injuries among people walking.

Fixing the Fatal Fifteen will provide safe infrastructure and help save lives. We are urging the City to allocate funding to make the necessary improvements.

WHAT: Stripes. Sight. Sound. High visibility crosswalks, countdown audible signals are among the types of solutions needed.
