About the walk

The Imperial Beach Scenic Estuary Walk is a 2.6 mile walk along the Tijuana River Estuary, taking you along a secluded beach with manmade dunes to the mouth of the Tijuana River. A unique setting is offered due to the proximity to the U.S.-Mexico Border and Baja California (specifically Tijuana), and the preservation of the surrounding wetlands. If you’re looking for an urban oasis that allows you to feel as if you’ve stepped out of the city, this is a great walk to take. As you travel south you’ll be surrounded by pure coastal beauty It’s an escape to bird watch, walk a dog, or enjoy the magnificent backdrop. Birds you may see along the way are the light-footed clapper rail and the California least tern, endangered wildlife that call the marsh home. Other birds that pass through this wildlife refuge are the ospreys, golden eagles, and peregrine falcons, so keep a look out for them. This route includes beach sand, neighborhood sidewalks, and estuary pathways.
