In keeping with our tradition of interviewing new team members, we asked our new Intern, Bryan Chan, a few questions so that you all can get to know him!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a undergraduate fourth year attending UCSD. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in Urban Studies and Planning (USP) with the end goal of being able to work on creating communities with an emphasis on public transportation. In my spare time, I like to draw digital artwork or play video games that boost my creativity.
How did you become interested in Circulate San Diego?
I found out about this organization via a blog created by the UCSD USP department. This blog has everything in terms of news and internships related to the department and so I used this site to find an internship. Circulate stood out to me because they were an organization focused on transportation alternatives. This to me I find important because creating a more sustainable lifestyle is something I would like to have happen in the future.
What’s your most memorable face palm moment? Or what is your biggest achievement to date? Choose one.
I am not entirely sure but in terms of achievements, just this Summer, I was able to use photoshop to create my first digital artwork. I found it to be a huge boost to my self-esteem and was proud of myself because ever since high school, I’d always wanted to create digital art but just didn’t know where to start.
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
I would love to have Elon Musk be my mentor if it was possible. Although he is a well known powerful figure comparable to others such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk has something the others don't: multiple innovations. Unlike Bill Gates for example, who became rich and famous from Microsoft, Elon Musk had Paypal, Tesla, SpaceX, and now the Boring Company, which is a large-scale tunnel infrastructure project aimed at alleviating traffic conditions witnessed in Los Angeles.
Elon Musk also has a warm and welcoming charm, and seems to relate well with the general public, having jokes such as his idea to spell out “SEXY” with the Tesla models as well as his twitter account.
He is just someone who I aspire to be, a person who can be successful while still having fun on the way.
