Circulate sent a letter of support for SANDAG’s application for funding for a Regional Transit Fare Impact Study. We also strongly encouraged SANDAG to take into account the preferences of current and potential transit riders not just the views of advocacy organizations and professional transit planners. Our letter noted that many foundation-funded advocacy nonprofits have advocated for eliminating fares from transit. We also noted that this was in contrast to surveys form actual low-income riders, which generally show that they are more concerned with improving trip speeds over lowering fares.
