Ascencia Apartments Earns Circulate Streamlined Mobility Certification
Circulate Planning & Policy, whose mission is to create excellent mobility choices and vibrant, healthy neighborhoods, today announced that Ascencia Apartments, a 180-unit affordable housing development owned by nonprofit developer, MAAC, in Downtown Escondido, has earned the Circulate Streamlined Mobility Certification.
Ascencia Apartments is accessible by excellent transit options. It is located near the NCTD Breeze Rapid Route 350 and approximately one-half mile from the SPRINTER station, providing regional transit connectivity throughout North San Diego County. In addition, the project promotes multiple modes of mobility for residents by providing secure bicycle parking spaces designed to accommodate resident use and encourage bicycle commuting for daily trips.
Ascencia Apartments will bring 180 new homes serving low-income households with long-term affordability protections. The project is located within Downtown Escondido's Southern Gateway District, transforming an underutilized infill site into a high-quality affordable housing community. Residents will have proximity to employment centers, retail and commercial services, government offices, educational facilities, healthcare providers, community resources, and public transportation. The development also includes community gathering spaces, open-air circulation elements, roof decks, playground areas, community rooms, resident support spaces, and multiple common open-space areas.
The Circulate Mobility Certification is awarded by an independent volunteer committee with expertise in the areas of development, active transportation, and neighborhood design. The panel independently evaluates each proposal on the basis of objective application criteria.
The Circulate Mobility Certification panel evaluated Ascencia Apartments and determined that it meets Circulate's objective criteria for a sustainable growth project in the San Diego region. There are several highlights the panel felt particularly compelling.
