MOVE Alliance Certifies Four Urban Infill Projects to Improve Mobility

Developments will increase mobility in San Diego and Lemon Grove

SAN DIEGO (October 26, 2015)-‐-‐-The MOVE Alliance is pleased to announce the certification of four small-scale urban infill projects in the cities of San Diego and Lemon Grove. Three out of four of the smart growth projects will provide affordable housing, and all are near high quality transit.

“These projects demonstrate the potential for turning an under-utilized lot into compact, affordable housing that encourage residents to take transit and ride bikes rather than to use other vehicles,” said Jim Stone, Executive Director of Circulate San Diego, the parent organization of MOVE Alliance.

Northside Commons, a San Diego Community Land Trust project, will provide 9 affordable townhomes for sale to income-qualified families just two blocks from the Lemon Grove Trolley Station. The Broadway & 30th Townhomes, a joint venture between McNamara Ventures and Agora Partners, contains 15 townhomes in the Golden Hill neighborhood of San Diego and is a 15 minute bus ride to Downtown San Diego.

Two small-scale projects from Bothwell Development Inc received the MOVE Alliance certification. In the Bankers Hill neighborhood of San Diego, the Brant St. Lofts will include 7 homes on a lot currently occupied by one single family home. In North Park, the Mix Thirty project will bring 29 residential units as well as retail space and an open courtyard and rooftop deck available for retail customers and residents on 30th Street.

The four projects create more housing opportunities in San Diego and Lemon Grove within a short walking distance of public transit and other amenities, include bicycle storage, and utilize human-scaled design. For these reasons, the MOVE Alliance is proud to certify these projects.

AboutThe MOVE Alliance provides certifications for proposed projects that demonstrate a commitment to creating, preserving and enhancing sustainable transit-oriented communities in the San Diego region. MOVE Alliance is a coalition organized by Circulate San Diego including partner organizations and individuals with expertise in the areas of sustainable transit-oriented development.
