Great cities don’t just happen, they’re planned. On March 10, 2016 we are launching #PlanDiego, a region-wide initiative to make planning and land use smarter, more inclusive, and fun! Circulate San Diego will be releasing a series of position papers, hosting panel discussions, and organizing community events to elevate the discussion of planning and land use throughout the San Diego region over the coming year.
Wine and refreshments will be served.
Our launch event will be on the evening of March 10, 2016, at a rooftop open-house at the Circulate San Diego downtown office, 1111 6th Ave., 92101.

La Mesa Urban Trails Mobility Plan
The” Jewel of the Hills” Has Four New Jewels
Late Tuesday afternoon, the La Mesa City Council unanimously approved its “Urban Trails Mobility Action Plan,” the next step in developing a comprehensive urban trails network along its streets.
The plan was the final product of a multi-year Caltrans grant, and Circulate San Diego was instrumental in conducting a robust public outreach process designed to not only conduct traditional community engagement exercises, but to supplement these activities with a community walking group of over 400 residents.
Policy Letter: The General Plan and Climate Action Plan Preclude Down-Zones of Neighborhoods
Since the last Circulator, Circulate San Diego sent a letter to the City of San Diego, clarifying that the Climate Action Plan and the General Plan preclude updates of community plans that down-zone neighborhoods.
Circulate San Diego wrote this letter to outline our expectations and the legal requirements the City of San Diego must meet as it updates its various community plans.

Walk to Work Day is April 1
1,000 pedestrian and bicyclists are hit by cars and more than 20 are killed each year on San Diego's streets. Circulate San Diego and a diverse group of transportation, business and community groups believe that any loss of life on our City's streets is unacceptable. That’s why San Diego should target an ambitious but attainable goal: Let’s reduce all traffic fatalities to zero by 2025, Vision Zero.
We need support from San Diegans who share our vision of safe streets for all. Participate in Walk to Work Day on April 1st and tell city leaders these deaths are preventable with coordinated action.

A New Guide for Creative Placemaking
Circulate has been working on a number of projects attempting to link creative placemaking strategies with safe transportation infrastructure improvements to improve walkability in communities. This week a new online guide, The Scenic Route, developed by Transportation for America was created "to introduce creative placemaking to transportation planners, public works agencies and local elected officials who are on the front lines of advancing transportation projects."

Uptown Planners Board Election
Community planning groups play an important role in shaping how San Diego will grow and develop. Each year, planning groups across the City hold elections to bring on new board members. These members get to make decisions about a wide range of issues like new development projects, transportation projects, landscaping and art, and even community plan updates.
Uptown Planners is one of the many planning groups holding elections this Spring, specifically on March 1. There are seven candidates. If you live in the Uptown area, or own a business or property, you are eligible to vote! Attend the March 1 meeting and complete a ballot. Voting instructions here.
