CIRCULATE MEDIA AVAILABILITY: “Easy Fares” Campaign to enhance PRONTO transit payment system

What: At 9 AM on Thursday, September 14, 2023, the Metropolitan Transit System Board will consider updating its PRONTO payment system to make fares easier to pay.
This update will allow riders to pay fares with their bank cards (debit cards, credit cards, prepaid cards), and mobile wallets (e.g. Apple Pay, Google pay, etc.). These are the methods that consumers already use for many, if not most, of their consumer purchases. MTS will benefit substantially if paying a fare becomes a more ‘normal’ transaction in the eyes of riders.
Circulate has long advocated this additional capacity and we support the adoption of this item. You can read Circulate's most recent letter to the MTS Board advocating this change here.
Circulate’s Policy Counsel Will Moore will be available at 8:30AM, before the MTS Board Meeting at 9 AM, to provide background on the proposed change and the reasons that Circulate has pushed for this adoption of Easy Fare Payment. Will can also be available to do one-on-ones after the board discussion in the lobby outside the MTS Board room.
