WHEN: Monday, February 12, 2018 at 5:30pm - 7:30pm

WHERE: 1111 6TH Ave., San Diego, CA 92101

Safe Streets Prioritized by San Diego City Council

Vision Zero received overwhelming support from the majority of Councilmembers in the first release of the City Council’s budget priorities this year. Circulate San Diego’s top priority in the FY 2019 budget season is the prioritization of safe streets and the budget priorities show that the City’s Councilmembers agree with us: Vision Zero must be prioritized. Eight out of nine Councilmembers prioritized bicycle and pedestrian safety this year, an increase from last year!

CSD Executive Director Featured in Our City San Diego Magazine

Our Executive Director Colin Parent was featured in this month's Our City San Diego magazine, in an article discussing the growing local support for more affordable housing in San Diego. The article includes information from our report on the City of San Diego's Affordable Homes Bonus Program, which is driving construction of both market-rate and deed-restricted affordable homes.

Our report was last covered in NextCity, a national publication focused on smart growth and urbanism. The City of San Diego's bonus program is one of the most aggressive bonus programs in the State, and it is a model for other jurisdictions to follow.

Circulate Kicks off New Project

Circulate San Diego is excited to start a new project this year with National City and KTUA. Thanks to a grant from Caltrans, National City will look at its transportation infrastructures and land use and work on the development of Smart Districts. Smart Districts are neighborhood units where a ten-minute walk will provide access to essential services and day-to-day destinations such as schools or grocery stores. The project also aims to improve access to transit and reduce driving time to other communities. Through the improvement of multi-modal connections and safer active transportation infrastructures, the project will increase mobility and quality of life for residents in National City by providing more transportation options, reducing travel times, and improving air quality.

Circulate will work with KTUA to identify those smart neighborhoods, identify challenges and opportunities, and reach out to the community about their vision and priorities. We look forward to speaking with National City residents about ways to improve their everyday commute and create vibrant, complete neighborhoods.

How to Join Your Community Planning Group Training

Is your voice being represented in your Community Planning Group (CPG)? CPG members help shape the future of their communities. Hear from CPG members about their experience and how you can get elected to your CPG!

Maya Rosas, advocacy manager at Circulate San Diego and former Uptown Planners member, and Eduardo Velasquez, research manager at San Diego Regional EDC, Circulate San Diego Board Member, and North Park Planning Committee member, will answer questions and provide insights from their own experiences about what it means to serve on a CPG.

This is not like our other CPG trainings consisting of a moderated panel discussion. This gathering will be less formal and more of a casual conversation between attendees. Because the event will be hosted at our offices, space is limited, so RSVP today!

WHEN: Monday, February 12, 2018 at 4:30pm - 5:30pm
WHERE: 1111 6th Ave., Suite #402, San Diego, CA 92101

We Have One More Certified League Cycling Instructor at CSD

Last weekend, project coordinator Oscar Medina completed the certification process to become Circulate San Diego's second League of American Bicyclists Instructor on staff. We're excited to incorporate Oscar's new credential to expand our bike encouragement and education programs.
