Capture_Uptown_Bike_Network.JPG

A discussion with SANDAG’s Board of Directors last week about 11 miles of urban bikeways included a lot of elements we have become familiar with: business and property owners present to argue against parking loss; bicycling and walking advocates present to speak in favor of safety and connectivity to get around without a car.

 Orchids & Onions Awards - Submit by July 31st

or_and_on.jpg

Orchids & Onions are annual awards given by the San Diego Architectural Foundation to celebrate the hits (and to recognize the misses) of recently developed projects of all types in the San Diego region. Here’s how you can get involved. Simply nominate a project, anonymously of course, in the following categories: Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, or create your own category. A jury of design professionals and members of the public will judge the nominations, with the resulting awardees revealed at a gala celebration on October 13th. The most celebrated (and controversial) nominations will be eligible for a “People’s Choice Orchid” (or “People’s Choice Onion”). Make an Orchid nomination for a recent project that enhances biking, walking, or transit. Or, if there is a project making our streets less safe, nominate it for an Onion. Voice your opinion about San Diego’s built environment!

The City of Chula Vista’s Recreation Department, together with local non-profits Circulate San Diego and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, has begun a new campaign designed to promote and encourage walking and biking throughout the City. The program has already had 5 Meet-Up walks around Recreation Centers and neighborhoods, 2 Meet-Up bike rides around parks, and 1 “Bike and Learn Together” ride originating from Parkway Community Center.

During one of these events, Crecencia Garibo shared her story. Over Crecencia’s lifetime, she tried to learn how to ride a bicycle. Read the entire blog to hear more about the many of the challenges and joys that Crecencia has faced on her journey to learn how to ride a bicycle.

Our Friends at beautifulPB Need Volunteers for Their Annual PBcounts Initiative
pbcounts.jpg

We need volunteers to help count the number of bicyclists, pedestrians, skateboarders, and cars that are traversing on PB Pathways. Last year, 20 Pacific Beach community members helped collect baseline data that we'll be expanding upon this year in order to:
  • Document changes in traffic over time;
  • Provide information for traffic related policy decisions;
  • Support safety improvements

To volunteer please RSVP here.
