Say Hello to Pronto

On Wednesday, NCTD and MTS launched the new PRONTO fare payment system, and celebrated with a full month of free transit ridership.

Circulate’s Executive Director and General Counsel joined other leaders for a press conference to kick-off the launch. Since as early as 2016, Circulate has been advocating for reforms to the region’s fare payment systems. We first campaigned successfully to implement stored value on the former Compass Card. Later, we advocated successfully for free transfers for one-way fares.Our campaign has been featured in dozens of articles over the years, most recently in Mass Transit Magazine.

To the credit of MTS, they also went above and beyond, by including a fare-capping policy into the new system. Now riders will never over-pay when they take more transit rides than they planned.

These improvements will help the system be accessible and fair for new customers, occasional riders, and tourists visiting from out of town.

Nominations are Now Open for the 2021 Momentum Awards!

Nominations are now open for Circulate San Diego’s annual Momentum Awards! Our Momentum Awards honor the people and projects in the San Diego region that are advancing excellent mobility choices and vibrant, healthy neighborhoods. Nominations are due by 5:00 pm on September 10, 2021. Submit your nomination here. You are encouraged to self-nominate and to nominate a client's project.

Transportation Resources for the San Diego Convention Center

Circulate recently partnered with the San Diego Convention Center and the California Office of Traffic and Safety to provide transportation related resources encouraging visitors to walk, bike, and take public transit! Over the last week, we’ve shared multiple resources on social media promoting ways to get around during a convention without renting a car. See the story map here!

Community Mobility Survey - Available Now!

The City recently began MAP Encinitas, which is the implementation plan portion of the Active Transportation Plan (ATP). This effort will prioritize the ATP projects and identify funding opportunities. When complete, MAP Encinitas will provide a list of the 35 highest priority bike and pedestrian projects that reflect the community’s desires and values. We want to hear from you about pedestrian and bicycle improvements! Please take a few minutes to complete an online survey to help the City prioritize the construction of mobility infrastructure projects (sidewalks, bike lanes, etc.) in Encinitas. Sign the petition to make Morena Boulevard Safe!

The City of San Diego recently began re-striping Morena Boulevard. Contrary to what was promised in the city's Specific Plan for this area, the road is being returned to a 4-lane speedway.

The Balboa Station Area Specific Plan was adopted in 2019 and calls for wider sidewalks and a two-way Class IV Cycle Tracks.

Please add your name to this petition to let the Mayor, the SD City Council and the President of the Council (Jen Campbell who also represents Bay Park on the Council) know that you support a safe Morena Boulevard.

SDREACH: Imperial Ave Walk Audit

Join us for a community walk audit on Imperial Avenue in Southeastern San Diego on Thursday, September 9th at 6:00 pm!

Circulate San Diego, in partnership with the County of San Diego, City of San Diego, and Councilmember Monica Montgomery's Staff, is hosting an Imperial Avenue walk audit to document community needs for safer streets and discuss potential traffic calming interventions needed along the Imperial Avenue corridor.

Meet at the NE corner of Imperial Avenue & San Jacinto Dr at 6:00pm and we'll walk the Imperial Avenue corridor together. RSVP here!

Kicking off Solana Beach Safe Routes to School!

Circulate is really excited to be partnering with Chen Ryan Associates on the Solana Beach Safe Routes to School Plan. Safe Routes to School is a nation-wide program that aims to create safer conditions around schools, and to encourage students, parents, and school staff to walk, bike, or roll to school. Try Slow on Diamond: Diamond Slow Streets Pathway to Permanence

Try Slow on Diamond Street is a community outreach event on Diamond Street on September 11, 2021, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. For one day, Circulate San Diego and beautifulPB will be demonstrating permanent infrastructure options for the City of San Diego’s Slow Streets program in the post-pandemic world. Come out and test several Vision Zero infrastructures that will help create safer mobility options for all! Make your voice heard in the pathway to permanence for our City's last Slow Street.

A full road closure of Diamond Street from Haines Street to Gresham Street will take place for vehicles, but pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to test out pilot versions of potential infrastructures. Community engagement tables will be set on at both ends of Haines Street to Gresham Street to educate community members about the project and collect feedback. RSVP Here!
