Official Launch of Circulate Planning

Circulate San Diego recently launched our new initiative “Circulate Planning,” to highlight our longstanding and growing planning practice.

Many people know about Circulate San Diego as a nonprofit that advocates for mobility choices and vibrant neighborhoods. However, the bulk of our staff and operations are dedicated to operating an in-house, value-oriented, and nonprofit planning firm. Our clients range from local governments, to school districts, to local community groups. Projects in our portfolio range from Safe Routes to School programs, comprehensive mobility planning, and helping partners with innovative outreach activities.

We have also developed a new Services Guide [PDF] which details the various programs and services we offer to local governments, school districts, community-based organizations, and others motivated to make a change in our communities.

Hightlights of Our Vision Zero Comic Release Party/Membership Event

Circulate San Diego celebrated the release of a special super-hero themed comic book. The book is a part of our efforts to educate school children about Vision Zero and street safety. The event featured remarks from Andrew Bowen (KPBS) and Kathleen Ferrier (City of San Diego), whose likenesses both appear in the comic.

A huge thanks to our corporate member, BIRD, for generously giving away free helmets to attendees. We also appreciate North Park Beer Co. for allowing us to use their charming mezzanine for this membership event. Lastly, we would like to thank all of our existing and new members for joining us!

Circulate San Diego and Housing Advocates Call on MTS to Update Policy to Develop Empty Parking Lots Into Affordable Homes

Circulate San Diego hosted a press conference with affordable housing advocates on September 20, 2018, to call on the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) to update its joint development policy to allow their under-utilized parking lots to be developed into affordable homes.

The press conference was a follow-up to the release of a report in April by Circulate San Diego titled “Real Opportunity.” Circulate’s report provides detailed recommendations for how MTS can stimulate the creation of as many as 8,000 new homes adjacent to transit stations. The report also includes new research demonstrating that a large number of parking lots owned by MTS are substantially under-utilized.

The following advocates were among those that joined Circulate San Diego in calling on MTS to amend their joint development policy so that more homes can be built near transit:

  • Colin Parent, Circulate San Diego
  • Mary Lydon, Housing You Matters
  • Stephen Russell, San Diego Housing Federation
  • Ginger Hitzke, Hitzke Development Corporation
  • Gabe Gutierrez, Circulate San Diego

Special thanks to our Corporate Members:

Their support allows Circulate San Diego to go "above and beyond" to advance our mission to create excellent mobility choices and vibrant, healthy neighborhoods. Your firm, company or employer can find more information on our Corporate Membership page.
