“Breaking of the Chains” by Melvin Edwards was installed in 1995 and is a 25-foot by 20-foot by 15-foot polished stainless-steel sculpture.

The plaque for the statue reads:

"ALONG THE WAY OF LIFE, SOMEONE MUST
HAVE SENSE ENOUGH AND MORALITY
ENOUGH TO CUT OFF THE CHAIN OF HATE.
THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE BY PROJECTING
THE ETHIC OF LOVE TO THE CENTER OF
OUR LIVES." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
