This pedestrian audit was conducted in coordination with Muirlands Middle School. This audit was hosted on January 8, 2026 and had a group of 10 people. The group included Circulate San Diego, Muirlands Middle School staff, and families from the school.
Muirlands Middle School is located in the Muirlands Neighborhood near La Jolla. The audit route took place along: Nautilus Street, Arnada Avenue, and Via Valverde. Between 2020-2024, there there were three bicyclists within a quarter mile of the walking route. On April 21, 2023, a 13-year-old bicyclist was struck by a driver while the bicyclist was turning left from Via Valverde onto Nautilus Street. Throughout the pedestrian audit, participants observed multiple conflicts between drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists along Nautilus Street, particularly during student dismissal.
