This pedestrian audit was conducted in coordination with Sandburg Elementary School. This audit was hosted on January 6, 2026 and had a group of 19 people. The group included Circulate San Diego, Sandburg Elementary's Student Safety Patrol team, and a member from SDPD.
Sandburg Elementary is located in Mira Mesa. The audit route took place along: Avenida del Gato, Zapata Avenue, Teresa Drive, Camino Ruiz, and Calle Morelos. Between 2020-2024, there was 1 pedestrian injured and 1 bicyclist injured within a quarter mile of the walking route. On December 17th, 2025, 14 year old Jayden Stewart was killed by a driver while crossing the intersection of Camino Ruiz and Hydra Lane with a group of friends.
