This pedestrian audit was conducted in coordination with Toby Wells YMCA. This audit was hosted on March 27, 2026 and had a group of 20 people. The group included Circulate Planning & Policy, Teens in Motion campers from Toby Wells YMCA, and YMCA staff.
The audit route took place along: Overland Avenue, Farnham Street, Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, Ruffin Road, and Lightwave Avenue. Between 2020 and 2024, two pedestrians were killed and one was injured within a quarter mile of the route. On April 11, 2021, a 29-year-old was killed by a driver using a street sweeper at the intersection of Overland Avenue and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. On June 7, 2023, a 48-year-old was killed while crossing the intersection of Overland Avenue and Lightwave Avenue. Later, at the same intersection, on January 1, 2025, a 63-year-old was struck by a driver and suffered severe injuries while crossing.
